Details

In early 2019, OKMG partnered with Pride WA to provide PR, marketing and sponsorship services for the volunteer organisation and it’s premier event PrideFEST. The annual month-long festival provides a platform for WA’s sexually and gender diverse community to celebrate and share their fabulous art and culture with the entire state.

PrideFEST Theme Honours Proud History

The PrideFEST 2019 theme is Reflect: Heroes, Community, Identity, Love.

This theme was chosen to honour the heroes who started the pride movement in WA with the demonstration on the steps of Parliament House to decriminalise homosexuality in 1989.

It was a galvanizing moment of courage and determination during the hysteria of the AIDS crisis that formalised the Pride WA community. Over the last 30 years Pride WA has evolved to develop a modern identity as the peak LGBTQI+ arts and cultural organisation in the state. More recently, the legalisation of marriage equality was a key victory for the broader community, with every electorate in Western Australia voting yes to love.

However, it’s equally important to reflect on where we can still improve; to assist those in our community who are still vulnerable and face discrimination simply for being who they are or for who they love.

The entire team at OKMG are so very proud to be able to support and represent this cause.
